JKD Eye Flick

The Eye Flick

The eye Flick is a maneuver used to target an opponent’s mouth and eyes. Eye FlickThis strike can also target both the ribcage and groin. While the Eye Flick appears to be similar to a backhand, this strike is much more deceptive and faster in delivery in actual motion against any of the aforementioned targets. The Eye Flick is somewhat of a sneak attack. This technique is being demonstrated book form for the first time and was previously only shown to my students and viewers of my website. Since I have received a lot of questions about this technique, I have reluctantly decided to share this devastating move in print. As mentioned before, the Eye Flick initially appears to be very similar to the backhand, but the difference in execution is the necessary flick of the hand from the wrist. In order to execute correctly, your hand must remain extremely loose and dangly at all times. Thus, one would not begin by standing very tight and clenching the fist as with the backhand. Instead, you must completely loosen the hand and the wrist. In order to test the body parts and experience how loose the hand and wrist should be, begin by dangling the hand in a very loose position. Then, flick the hand in midair. When flicked the hand should make a flapping sound, similar to the noise produced by a bird’s moving wings in the air. This sound is actually the wind moving through the fingers as a result of the speed in delivery with which the move is executed. If this sound does not occur, this means that the maneuver is not being executed with enough speed and will not be as effective. As a result, the flick will resemble a backhand and be slow and telegraphic. Be sure that the hand and the wrist are very loose at all times to execute an Eye Flick.

Why the Eye Flick Not the Backhand?
As previously mentioned, the eye flick is very deceptive because the strike appears to be a backhand but you can use it much more frequently in half the amount of time then you can with the backhand. Due to the speed in which it is executed, the eye flick is difficult for the opponent to even see coming. Thus, your opponent will have a very hard time defending it, because the strike can repeatedly be delivered with such tremendous speed, along with the same amount of snap every single time, as opposed to the back fist which can be very easily detected and stopped because of lack of speed and snap during execution and delivery.

Which causes more damage? The backhand can cause more damage because it is executed with body weight and hip rotation behind the hit. Therefore, the impact is much more devastating and the results can be a knockout. The Eye Flick is compared to a bee sting that and causes swelling to the targeted area and the opponent will only feel its impact seconds after the impact. The result is total lack of vision, along with a stinging effect and internal, long lasting pain.
