5 Ways of Attack

SDA:

Single Direct Attack - A single blow can be Choon Choy (a JKD devastating punch), or Gwa Choy (backhand), or it can be compared to a boxers jab or cross. It can be Jick Teck (straight kick),

Ow Teck (hook kick), and Juck Teck (sidekick), or some other attack, as long as the attack is single, one motion and direct. It can be executed with footwork to add more power to the attack. The practitioner must be in the JKD By-Jon (ready fighting stance). Hands and wrists must be very relaxed and delivering the clenched punch only about 2” in front of its target or at its moment of impact. You must put your hip behind it, snap it, and put your energy and power into your fist making it into a weapon.

ABC:

Attack by Combination- This can be a boxer’s jab, cross, hook, or upper cut. Hands combination, hand and feet combination, or vice versa, etc. The two motions must be part of one motion delivered with broken rhythm, and it can be executed with more than just one attack-ie- Jik Teck (front kick), Choon kune (punch), Gwa Choy (back hand), Pie Jon (inward elbow) “using every part of your body.

HIA:

Hand Immobilization Attack- Fon Sow, this is also known as ‘trapping hands.’ When you completely immobilize your opponent’s hands using several different techniques, Gum Sow (pressing hand), Pock Sow (slapping hand), and Lop Sow (grabbing hand), just to name a few. If done properly, this will give you the opportunity to strike without a counter strike from your opponent. This can also be FIA: FOOT IMMOBILIZATION ATTACK. You intercept anything that is put in front of you by taking his power, bringing it to a dead stop, and eliminating all of the opponent’s weapons, leaving him without any recourse.

PIA:

Progressive Indirect Attack - Distance and timing are the keys to PIA. The key is to fake out your opponent, to open him up for an attack no matter how well he is guarded. By using for instance, Chop Choy (low hammer) for a fake, not connecting the hit to the lower gate, or fake to the eyes with the rear hand, but land with a Gwa Choy (back hand) to his head. Or it can be fake low with a Jick Teck (front kick) but land high with a Ow Teck (hook kick, round house).

ABD:

Attack by Drawing - Deceptive fighting. The object is to deceive your opponent (this is done intentionally to set up your opponent) so when your opponent strikes at the opening you are ready to attack with a counter attack. Just simply invite your opponent in, let him think he’s welcome by giving him an opening for an attack but sure enough surprise him with an attack. For instance “for an opponent to reach you, he must move towards you”. That should offer you an opportunity to intercept him by using your longest weapon against his nearest target, his knee cap. For example, deliver a massive Jeet Teck (stop kick), or side kick him to the head. You can also simply intercept his thought and emotion before he even scores by delivering a JKD punch (Choon Choy).
